Sustainable Landscape Management
Focusing on ecologically-sound management practices for small residential properties
Meadow in bloom. Common meadow plants fill the space: black eyed susan, wild carrot, echinecea, monarda, switchgrass & little bluestem. Also a common invasive Lespedeza is visible. Meadows do require seasonal invasive removal.
Converting uninspiring lawns into biologically diverse meadows, food producing gardens, and chemical free backyards.
Imagine if your yard wasn’t just a lawn that you had to mow once a week. What if it was a place where you and your family could find nutritious vegetables, herbs, and fruit, where you could be surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, and where you could see and be certain that you are actually helping the environment.
A path twisting through a native meadow in late spring. This area is mowed only once a year.

Why?
Lawns are great spaces for kids to play and for parents to entertain. But when they expand to cover acres they become environmental wastelands, devoid of native life, and often full of chemicals and artificial fertilizers. My goal is minimize lawns to what is only practical, manage them naturally, and convert leftover property into productive food-growing gardens or wildlife-attracting meadows. Making your lawn smaller means less mowing, less gasoline, and less chemicals seeping into our waterways. Plus, when a lawn is small it can be managed completely with quiet, battery-powered equipment.
How?
I can manage the process of lawn conversions and provide weekly maintenance.
Or
I can offer advice and consulting to help with your own backyard projects.
Either way the process always begins with a discussion of goals and the layout of a basic timeline.

About Me
Encouraging home-based sustainability is my mission. Everyone needs to recognize that they are a part of, and influence, the natural world around them. I hope to encourage home owners to see the potential of their properties and help them live more sustainable lives.
I have been working professionally as a farmer, gardener, and/or groundskeeper for the last 8 years. I have experience managing farms in Maryland and New Jersey and I have worked in both rural and urban settings. I am a graduate of Maryland’s Beginner Farmer Training Program and I am continuously working to improve my knowledge of sustainable landscaping through personal study, workshops, and other professional development opportunities.
I also have a BFA in Multidisciplinary Fine Art and when I am not gardening I enjoy creating drawings and paintings inspired by nature.
